Mission
The challenge in this project, in particular, was to optimize the plan within the 55m2 zoning limitations. With the use as a music studio in mind, we tried with respect to the characteristic existing house, to design a space that fits into the ensemble and establishes a connection with it’s environment.
In the design a number of design-principles are comprehended;
The object must comply hierarchy in relation to the existing house, so the house will not be overshadowed.
The object will remain subordinate by it’s materialization and appearance. In addition, there was the wish to incorporate the environment and the context of the studio into the design. That is to say, not a solitary building, but an object that has a clear connection with the surrounding forest, the garden and the existing house. This has led to to the archetype barn shape, with a finishing of timber slats that will age in a natural way.
The building is slightly rotated in relation to the house, this ensures that the south side will gain the most light and the interaction with the garden is at best.
The slope of the landscape is used to make the building accessible on two levels. Trough this we could create a sunken terrace on the south side by the incision of the landscape.
